Mary Fraijo (1927-1995) became a charter member of the Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho chapter of AFWA in 1958. She joined the Spokane chapter in 1967. She held every office available throughout both organizations. She was later the Northwest Area Director of AFWA. She continued to mentor young, bright students and accountants.
Mary valued education and sought to increase and improve the opportunities for those in our community. Since it was created , the Mary M. Fraijo Scholarship has created numerous educational opportunities for those in our community. There has been over $43,000 in scholarship awards in her memory. Many students from the Inland Northwest area have benefited from this program. Students have attended ten different colleges: Gonzaga University, Whitworth College, Western Washington University, Montana State University, Washington State University, Eastern Washington University, Central Washington University, Linfield College, North Idaho College and Community Colleges of Spokane.
Mary was a true inspiration to those whose lives she touched. “There may be no greater personal legacy than investing in the lives of others.” Leslie Fraijo Miller, said.
Her legacy remains evident in the contributions and pursuits of the Mary M. Fraijo Scholarship Fund. To make contributions, please contact treasurer@AFWA4.org.
